ME SHENG’S lst BIRTHDAY!
Here is Me Sheng, the San Diego Zoo’s male giant panda cub, on his first birthday August 19, 2005. He currently resides at the SBC Giant Panda Research Station there. Major cuteness alert, I would say! 54 pounds of cuteness at that. Pandas are difficult to raise in captivity particularly with regard to their mating behavior and are highly endangered. Giant pandas are owned by China but are “loaned” to the US for breeding and raising. The Chinese have made a major committment to protecting this species and attempting to increase their numbers. They have had some success but the committment and devotion of people engaged in this activity is incredible. By the way Me Sheng means “Born in th USA” - Are you listening Springstein?
