THE BIG EASY IS DROWING!
Hurricane Katrina tried to drown New Orleans and cities along the Gulf Coast and has nearly suceeded. The scenes I am watching on news broadcasts are gut wrenching, terrifying and profoundly sad. It is hard to imagine that the areas are not damaged - they are just GONE. How will the people pick up their lives, find homes, get jobs, school their children and survive. I am acutely touched though by the will of people to survive - wading and swimming through the water and sitting on their roofs with water just inches below them - waiting for rescue. I just heard that many communities have not yet been visited by rescuers - they are just not reachable at this point. The entire city of New Orleans will be evacuated. Absolutely apocolyptic!
