REFUGEES AND DISASTER!
First, there are many sites, blogs and commentaries that will document opinions as to the breakdown and deplorable response of our government to rescue and care for our CITIZENS along the Gulf Coast. So I wont comment further at the moment but notice the operative word - CITIZENS!
The news media relentlessly refers to our fellow disaster victims/CITIZENS as REFUGEES! I even spent some time looking up this word, thinking I didn’t understand the meaning but here is what I found. A REFUGEE is “a person who has escaped from their own country for political, religious or economic reasons or because of a war”! A CITIZEN is “a person who is a member of a particular country and who has rights because of being born there!”. Well, that certainly clears this up - the sufferring people in Mississippi, Alabama and Louisiana are our fellow United States Citizens - period.
Now how do we go about getting the government to do what needs to be done - NOW?
