"Thanks everybody!"
During 2002, when I was undergoing cancer treatment, I received many sweet bears from dear friends - They all helped to cheer me up! The brown bear at the top of the picture, who is peaking at us, was given to me by one of my daughters and went to the hospital with me! I thought the nurses would think I was crazy, but I even found him tucked into my bed after I returned from a walk! Thank you friends!
"The Story of Theodore"
Here is a picture of my most recent teddy bear purchase, a reproduction of little Theodore, a 3" mohair teddy, the constant companion of Peter Bull.
For those of you unfamiliar with Peter Bull he was an English Actor who was instrumental in promoting interest in the teddy bear in the 70’s and 80’s. His childhood bear was given away but a friend gave him a tiny bear twenty years later to celebrate a first night. Mr. Bull carried this bear in his pocket for many years. He wrote a wonderful book entitled ‘Bear With Me’ to celebrate the impact teddies have on people’s lives. As a result he was invited to make radio and TV appearances including the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. James Ownby was so inspired by the book that he founded Good Bears of the World, my favorite teddy bear charity.
After Mr. Bull’s death in 1984 Theodore came to live at Teddy Bears of Whitney in England, a teddy bear shop and museum, and resides with Aloysius, another famous teddy who belonged to Peter.
Theodore has been faithfully reproduced by Teddy Bears of Whitney. The postcard in the photo shows the original Theodore and the reproduction, which I acquired at the Linda Mullins Show in August of 2001. He is absolutely the best reproduction of a famous teddy I have seen to date! Enjoy your visit with him!
